Mission Statement
Bach Woodcraft specializes in the preservation and replication of period millwork for classic New England architecture. Our mission is to retain the authenticity of original craftsmanship with in kind repairs unnoticeable to the eye and exact reproductions that blend seamlessly with the surrounding facade.
In the planning stages, Bach offers consulting and design services to help clients meet their objectives toward retaining the original character of the structure’s woodwork. Whether the focus is upon authenticity in design, value engineering, choosing the best course of remedial action or meeting compliance with historic district guidelines, we can help you through the initial decision making process.
Traditional wood joinery was developed to withstand the forces of nature when our modern adhesives weren’t available. These techniques have stood the test of time, which is why we incorporate them in our work along with premium exterior glues and finishes of today. The correct wood selection is also critical to the longevity of exterior moldings, window sash, shutters and doors. To the greatest extent possible, we utilize old growth material in kind for repairs and decay resistant Cedar, Mahogany or Douglas Fir in reproduction work.
In the reproduction of historic components such as window sash and doors, Bach is equipped to meet a wide array of objectives depending on project requirements. When energy efficiency is a priority, Bach is poised to incorporate insulated glass and offer a variety of weatherstrip options while maintaining the design character and joinery of the original work. Sourcing of antique glass and custom hardware to match the original period is also a part of our service.
Finally, proper installation and a durable finish is the best defense against the elements. This is a critical part of the preservation process and one in which our 35 plus years of experience serves to set our clients at ease that their project has been completed with the utmost of care.
